A Brief History of Big Valley

I started out in 1983 as a helper working for a company called United Carpet. It didn’t take long to know this was a career for me. The owner had taken a special interest in me because from the day I started I worked hard and always wanted to excel and learn more.

United Carpet, at that time, offered to give me an apprenticeship. I graduated with honors in the field of 'Flooring Applications and Finishing'. After finishing my apprenticeship I was promoted to what they termed then as “Flooring installation Technicians”. I then stayed on with United Carpet for 6 years, and in 1989, started my own business, specializing in ceramic & stone tile and hardwood installation and refinishing.

Beginning working on smaller jobs, contracts began to grow in size and complexity. The more complex the contract, the more I enjoyed where my business was going. I then commenced larger contracts for PCL Contracting, The Saskatchewan School Board, The Armed Forces of Canada, Cineplex Odeon Theatres, and The Vancouver Convention Center, to name a few.

In 1999 I siezed the opportunity to buy a flooring store, which I successfully owned and operated for 3 years. I found that owning a store didn't quite satisfy me, so I sold my business and ventured back to my craft within the field.

Throughout the years I have taken advanced training as well as any technical/product training being offered by the flooring products manufacturers. It is my philosophy that one can not stop learning when it comes to providing the best possible workmanship and service his customers. This philosphy has led to my success across Canada.

I have since moved back home to the Okanagan and will remain here for the rest of my career. I intend to offer my extensive knowledge in the floor covering and installation industry to you my customers.
